Battle Creek man run over by girlfriend, twice

The injustice orchestrated by lab chemist Annie Dookhan was first revealed five years ago, after she had been working for the Massachusetts state drug lab for nearly a decade to help prosecutors, in her words, get drug dealers “off the streets.” Then the lab chemist once called “superwoman” for her exceptional speed running tests told state police that she had “screwed up big-time.”
In the year that followed, authorities would call into question the convictions of tens of thousands of drug cases handled by Dookhan in the Massachusetts state drug lab.

There was a reason she was so fast, it turned out: She eventually told investigators she tripled the productivity rates of her colleagues by not actually testing all the drugs that came before her, forging her co-workers’ initials and mixing drug samples so that her shoddy analysis matched the results she gave prosecutors.  click title to read more...

1,000 native women murdered, missing in Canada over 30 years: RCMP

The RCMP revealed Thursday that nearly 1,200 aboriginal women have been murdered or gone missing in Canada in the past 30 years

OTTAWA—The RCMP revealed Thursday a shocking number — nearly 1,200 aboriginal women have been murdered or gone missing in Canada in the past 30 years.
RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson said most of those women — about 1,000 — are murder victims.
The rest, about 186, are disappearances, still logged in police files across the country, and in a majority of those — some 160 missing person cases — the RCMP says authorities “ought to” suspect foul play. The others have been determined to be disappearances for “reasons unknown.” click on headline

Hanging on the walls of Kattie Lee Fontaine’s living room are two striking portraits of her cousin Tina, who was just 15 when she disappeared from the streets of Winnipeg, Manitoba, in August 2014.
Tina and her four cousins, Kattie Lee, Rose, Jolene and Angel grew up together on the Sagkeeng First Nation, an indigenous reserve east of Lake Winnipeg with a population of 3,000 – and six unsolved cases of missing or murdered First Nations women.
In June 2014, Tina travelled to Winnipeg to rekindle her relationship with her estranged biological mother. Her family reported her missing, and five weeks later, on 8 August, Fontaine was picked up by police in a vehicle that had been pulled over for drunk driving. click on headline.

- A Northville doctor was charged on Thursday with performing female genital mutilation on minor girls out of a Livonia medical office.
According to the complaint filed in federal court, Dr. Jumana Nagarwala performed the procedure on girls between the ages of 6 and 8 years old. The complaint states that some members of a religion across the world have the procedure done to reduce sexual pleasure and promiscuity.
The federal document claims that children from other states were brought to Dr. Nagarwala to undergo the operations. Two victims from Minnesota stayed at a hotel in Farmington Hills in February. One of the girls is 11 years old and told authorities that they came to the Detroit area for a 'special' girls trip, and when they arrived at the hotel she and the other young girl had to go to the doctor because 'their tummies hurt'.
While at the doctor's office, she said a procedure was done to 'get the germs out'. She identified Nagarwala as the woman who performed the operation. She also said that she was told not to talk about the procedure..... click headline to read more
