GOP Rape Advisory Chart

By Brainwrap
Wednesday Oct 24, 2012 · 11:50 AM EST

UPDATE 8/30/15: THE GOP RAPE ADVISORY CHART NOW HAS IT'S OWN WEBSITE AT http://goprapeadvisorychart.com AND IS UP TO 10 VOLUMES.

A week or so ago, connecticutie posted her version of the GOP Rape Advisory Chart to help sort out all of the confusion about the wide variety of rape "flavors" that today's Republican Party seems so hell-bent on bringing to light.
I thought she did a fantastic job, but, given the latest entries into the "rainbow of rape flavors" yesterday and today by Richard Mourdock and John Cornyn, I decided to create a revised version that plays it straight--I'm just including the actual quotes themselves. Feel free to repost on FB, TW or wherever you wish.
So, without further ado, I present the updated Republican Party Rape Advisory Chart:  click title to read more....

America’s hidden horror: Sexual abuse in nursing homes and care facilities

By Mark Davis
mdavis@kcstar.com
and Ian Cummings
icummings@kcstar.com

Early one afternoon in March 2015, an authoritative knock stirred Mark Allen Keeney into answering the door to Room 6 of a motel in southeast Missouri.
A sheriff’s deputy and police chief wanted to know who was with him. They found empty beer cans and two women, both described in a state health report as mentally ill and under the care of a guardian.
The women, in their mid-40s, also were residents of Keeney Country Homes, a state-licensed residential care facility that Keeney owned in the neighboring county.
Before the day was over, Missouri inspectors were wrapping up their investigation. Within a week, the state had revoked Keeney’s licenses to operate that home and another he owned, both in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
It wasn’t until 18 months later that Keeney, 61, was charged with rape and sodomy. That case was dismissed, but prosecutors refiled in February. He has pleaded not guilty.
Sexual abuse of residents in long-term care facilities, assisted-living centers and nursing homes is a largely hidden problem nationwide.  click title to read more,,,

How a lab chemist went from ‘superwoman’ to disgraced saboteur of more than 20,000 drug cases

By Katie Mettler April 2

The injustice orchestrated by lab chemist Annie Dookhan was first revealed five years ago, after she had been working for the Massachusetts state drug lab for nearly a decade to help prosecutors, in her words, get drug dealers “off the streets.” Then the lab chemist once called “superwoman” for her exceptional speed running tests told state police that she had “screwed up big-time.”
In the year that followed, authorities would call into question the convictions of tens of thousands of drug cases handled by Dookhan in the Massachusetts state drug lab.

There was a reason she was so fast, it turned out: She eventually told investigators she tripled the productivity rates of her colleagues by not actually testing all the drugs that came before her, forging her co-workers’ initials and mixing drug samples so that her shoddy analysis matched the results she gave prosecutors.  click title to read more...

1,000 native women murdered, missing in Canada over 30 years: RCMP

The RCMP revealed Thursday that nearly 1,200 aboriginal women have been murdered or gone missing in Canada in the past 30 years

By Tonda MacCharlesOttawa Bureau reporter
Thu., May 1, 2014

OTTAWA—The RCMP revealed Thursday a shocking number — nearly 1,200 aboriginal women have been murdered or gone missing in Canada in the past 30 years.
RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson said most of those women — about 1,000 — are murder victims.
The rest, about 186, are disappearances, still logged in police files across the country, and in a majority of those — some 160 missing person cases — the RCMP says authorities “ought to” suspect foul play. The others have been determined to be disappearances for “reasons unknown.” click on headline

Unsolved murders of indigenous women reflect Canada's history of silence

As spotlight returns to decades-long violence against native women and girls, calls for national inquiry have been rebuffed but groups refuse to give up

Hanging on the walls of Kattie Lee Fontaine’s living room are two striking portraits of her cousin Tina, who was just 15 when she disappeared from the streets of Winnipeg, Manitoba, in August 2014.
Tina and her four cousins, Kattie Lee, Rose, Jolene and Angel grew up together on the Sagkeeng First Nation, an indigenous reserve east of Lake Winnipeg with a population of 3,000 – and six unsolved cases of missing or murdered First Nations women.
In June 2014, Tina travelled to Winnipeg to rekindle her relationship with her estranged biological mother. Her family reported her missing, and five weeks later, on 8 August, Fontaine was picked up by police in a vehicle that had been pulled over for drunk driving. click on headline.

Detroit emergency room doctor charged with performing female genital mutilation

Posted:Apr 13 2017 12:16PM EDT
Updated:Apr 13 2017 02:09PM EDT
DETROIT (WJBK) - A Northville doctor was charged on Thursday with performing female genital mutilation on minor girls out of a Livonia medical office.
According to the complaint filed in federal court, Dr. Jumana Nagarwala performed the procedure on girls between the ages of 6 and 8 years old. The complaint states that some members of a religion across the world have the procedure done to reduce sexual pleasure and promiscuity.

The federal document claims that children from other states were brought to Dr. Nagarwala to undergo the operations. Two victims from Minnesota stayed at a hotel in Farmington Hills in February. One of the girls is 11 years old and told authorities that they came to the Detroit area for a 'special' girls trip, and when they arrived at the hotel she and the other young girl had to go to the doctor because 'their tummies hurt'.
While at the doctor's office, she said a procedure was done to 'get the germs out'. She identified Nagarwala as the woman who performed the operation. She also said that she was told not to talk about the procedure..... click headline to read more

GOP Candidate Loses Party's Support After Telling Woman 'You Should F**k Me'

A Republican running for a seat in the New Jersey General Assembly has lost GOP support after a video surfaced of him hitting on a woman, according to Politico.
Brian McDowell, a former contestant on NBC’s “The Apprentice” who just filed a petition to run for office last month, was caught on tape asking a woman to sleep with him, slurring his words as he spoke.

Mississippi is rejecting nearly all of the poor people who apply for welfare

And the state won’t explain why.

By Bryce Covert and Josh Israel
Last year, 11,717 low-income residents of Mississippi applied to get a meager government benefit to help them make ends meet. The state’s welfare program, part of federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), gives a maximum of just $170 a month to a family of three. These applicants had applied hoping to get at least that crumb of cash assistance.
But out of the pool—more than 11 thousand—only 167 people were actually approved and enrolled in the program, according to state data obtained by ThinkProgress. Every other applicant was denied or withdrew, resulting in an acceptance rate of just 1.42 percent. Statistically speaking, it’s more like a rounding error.
The numbers follow a disturbing trend in the state over the past several years. Between 2003 and 2010, according to a report by the Mississippi Low-Income Child Care Initiative (MLICCI), roughly half of the applicants to the state’s TANF program were rejected, already a large share of poor people denied assistance. But then in 2011, the rejection rate catapulted to 89 percent. It has gradually increased every year since.
States are generally incentivized to reduce their TANF caseloads, given that any unused money can be redirected to other purposes. But Mississippi stands out for its astonishing rejection rate.  click headline....

Girls With Single Parents Twice as Likely to Be Obese

Amy Capetta April 13, 2017

Researchers from Australia analyzed data of more than 3,500 children about their height, weight, diet, lifestyle, and their parents’ socioeconomic circumstances. And here’s what they discovered:
  • 9 percent of the children between five and 17 were obese
  • Obese children of both sexes were likely to consume take-away foods (e.g., fast food or takeout) at least twice a week, live in disadvantaged communities, and were being raised by one or two parents who were less-educated or unemployed
  • Obese children watched an average of at least two hours of TV each day and were less likely to participate in an organized sport ,,,  click the headline....

The wife of the Alabama governor who just resigned orchestrated his downfall after she caught him cheating

Veronika Bondarenko,Business Insider Tue, Apr 11 12:59 PM

When a former Alabama governor started sending suggestive texts to a member of his staff, he probably didn't expect them to sync with the state-issued iPad he had given his wife.
Robert Bentley resigned on Monday after an ethics report concluded he used state resources to conceal an affair with his adviser, Rebekah Caldwell Mason.
But the scandal began in 2013, when his wife, Dianne Bentley, became suspicious of the budding relationship........ click headline

A Missouri Town Exiled A Woman For Calling The Police On Her Abusive Ex

Under a local “nuisance” ordinance, a person who calls the cops for domestic violence more than twice in 180 days can face eviction.

The Huffington Post Tue, Apr 11 4:28 AM PDT

When Rosetta Watson, a black woman with disabilities living in Maplewood, Missouri, needed protection from an abusive ex-boyfriend, she did what she was supposed to do: She called the police. On four occasions between 2011 and 2012, she contacted local law enforcement, telling authorities that Robert Hennings hit, shoved and choked her.
Watson wanted relief from the violence. But instead, according to a federal lawsuit the American Civil Liberties Union filed last week against Maplewood, she was evicted and forced to leave town for six months........................

Federal judge blocks Indiana law that Pence signed mandating ultrasounds 18 hours before an abortion

By Meteor Blades
Tuesday Apr 04, 2017 · 1:45 PM EST

A federal judge has blocked an Indiana law signed by Mike Pence in 2016 when he was still governor to force women to obtain an ultrasound at least 18 hours before getting an abortion. Judge Tanya Walton Pratt, the first African American ever appointed to the federal court in Indiana, ruled in the case that the state made no compelling argument that requiring an ultrasound “makes it any more likely that a woman will choose not to have an abortion.”......

Donald Trump stands by serial sexual harasser Bill O'Reilly: 'I don’t think Bill did anything wrong'
By Jen Hayden
Wednesday Apr 05, 2017 · 1:11 PM EST

As the Trump administration tries to pivot away from the serious investigation into whether the campaign colluded with Russia, an foreign enemy state, they’ve taken their case to the New York Times. After doing all they can to blame a woman, who by all accounts was a consummate professional and didn't do anything improper in the course of her job, Trump changed the subject to Bill O’Reilly, who has settled at least five sexual harassment lawsuits for $13 million. Of course, Trump is standing by his man:....................

We Will Win the Fight for Equal Pay

Think about 20 cents. It doesn’t feel very significant - there isn’t much you could buy with it. But over a lifetime, those 20 cents add up in a major way.
Today, we have reached yet another Equal Pay Day - the day on which the average woman’s earnings finally catch up to what the average man made last year. This year’s Equal Pay Day falls 94 days into 2017 - 94 days too late...............

Equal Pay Day: New York Has Smallest U.S. Gender Pay Gap, Wyoming the Biggest

Lucy Westcott,Newsweek

New York has the smallest gender pay gap in the United States, while Wyoming has the widest, according to a new analysis published to mark Equal Pay Day.
Created in 1996 by the National Committee on Pay Equity, Equal Pay Day each year is held on the day that marks how far into the next year the average woman would need to work to earn the same as the average man made in the entire previous year. So, while it’s being held on April 4 this year, if miraculous strides were somehow made in the upcoming months to close the gender pay gap, the day could be held on, say, March 31 next year—still representing a full extra three months of work for the average woman........

The significance of Equal Pay Day on April 4

Bianna Golodryga April 4, 2017

By Kate Murphy
Equal pay is a hot-button issue and has its own day on April 4.
Equal Pay Day began in 1996 to raise public awareness about the gap between men’s and women’s wages, and there have been many efforts over the years to mind the pay gap.
In 1963, President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law. Then in 1964, the Civil Rights Act expanded protections against discrimination based on race, origin, color, religion or sex.
But the one-two punch of these two laws still didn’t knock out pay inequality in the workplace........

Georgia lawmakers cruelly mocked rape survivor lobbying against harmful bill

By wagatwe
Thursday Mar 30, 2017 · 2:07 PM EST

Remember how Georgia state Rep. Earl Ehrhart adopted a crusade to make it even harder to hold campus rapists accountable? And then he tried to push a bill for a vote on the last day of Georgia’s session after it was already defeated earlier?
Well, I’m sure it’ll shock you to learn he and his pro-rape cronies spent time—as literal representatives of the government on taxpayer dime—to mock, demean, and ridicule a campus rape survivor.
Survivor and law student Grace Starling wrote about these heinous acts at myAJC:
“Spoiled child who doesn’t know how to behave”
“Snowflake who needs a safe space”
“Could you grow up?”
“Trigger somewhere else”
“Utilizing a victim’s status”
Based on these comments said about me or to me, you might assume I was on a playground and not in the Georgia Capitol. You’d be wrong. According to state Rep. Earl Ehrhart, R-Powder Springs, and supporters of his ill-conceived campus rape bill, I am a spoiled child who doesn’t know how to behav.........
